Pet urine treatment

Old cat urine and pet odour treatment in Queenstown

Dog accidents, cat urine, mattress accidents and returning odours need a different process from normal spot cleaning. We assess the visible mark, smell pattern, surface type and underlay risk before choosing the safest treatment.

Old cat urine needs specialist treatment

Old cat urine can leave uric salt and odour sources below the visible mark. We treat it as contamination first and a surface stain second.

We assess how deep it has gone

Pet urine can soak into carpet backing, underlay, mattresses and upholstered furniture. We look at the smell pattern, moisture history and surface before choosing the treatment.

Honest limits before we push

If urine has reached underlay, flooring or deep foam layers, we explain what can be improved and where lifting, replacement or repair may still be needed.

Our Stain Removal Process

How we approach stubborn stains that standard cleaning cannot handle.

01

Stain Identification

We identify the stain type and select the appropriate treatment. Different stains require different chemical approaches — there is no one-size-fits-all fix.

02

Pre-Treatment

Number One professional formula is applied and given time to break down the stain compounds at a molecular level before extraction.

03

Gentle Extraction

Controlled extraction removes dissolved stain, treatment solution and embedded dirt together. The method is chosen for the fibre, stain and moisture tolerance.

04

Rinse & Protect

We rinse the area with clean water and apply optional fabric protection to guard against future stains. We also give you DIY tips for next time.

Before & After

Stain Removal FAQ

Can you remove old dried stains?expand_more

Often yes, though older stains are harder to remove than fresh ones. The Number One formula is specifically effective on set-in stains — it re-hydrates and breaks down dried residue so it can be extracted. We will assess the stain honestly before we start and give you a realistic expectation. Some very old stains on delicate fibres may be permanently set, and we will tell you that upfront rather than risk damaging the carpet.

Is Number One safe for wool carpets?expand_more

Yes. The Number One formula is pH-balanced and safe for wool, silk, and other delicate natural fibres. Many cheaper stain removers are too alkaline for wool and can damage or felt the fibres. We always check the carpet type before selecting the exact treatment approach to ensure the right product is used.

What stains cannot be removed?expand_more

A small number of stains may be permanent, particularly bleach damage, dye transfer, chemical burns, some very old red wine stains on light carpet, and urine that has permanently affected backing, underlay or flooring. We will tell you honestly before we start if we think a perfect result is unlikely, and we will not sell a full restoration result when the realistic outcome is improvement only.

Do you treat old cat urine in carpets?expand_more

Yes. Old cat urine is one of the situations where we treat the job as contamination, not just a stain. We assess the visible mark, the smell pattern, the carpet type and whether the problem may have reached the backing or underlay before choosing the treatment. If the contamination has gone too deep, we will explain the realistic limits before doing unnecessary work.

Why does pet urine smell come back after cleaning?expand_more

Pet urine can travel below the surface into carpet backing, underlay, mattress foam or upholstery layers. If the deeper source is not treated, the surface may look cleaner for a while but odour can return when the room warms up or humidity rises. Cat urine is especially persistent, so we treat urine as contamination rather than a normal spot stain.

Can you fix urine that has reached the underlay?expand_more

Sometimes it can be improved, but underlay contamination has physical limits. If urine has soaked into underlay, flooring or deep foam layers, we may recommend deeper treatment, lifting, replacement of affected material, or a realistic improvement plan rather than promising a perfect result.

How much does stain removal cost?expand_more

Cost depends on the number, size, age and type of stains, the surface involved, and whether a full carpet clean is included at the same time. Cat urine, heavy odour, dye transfer and old mystery stains usually need more assessment than a fresh food spill. For spot treatment only, contact us for a quote — call 0290 4502 709 or email job@truerevivexpert.nz with details and a photo if possible.

Should I treat the stain myself before you arrive?expand_more

Blot (do not rub) fresh liquid stains with a clean cloth to absorb as much as possible. Avoid using supermarket stain sprays before we arrive — some can set stains permanently or leave residues that interfere with professional treatment. If you have Number One at home, that is fine to use as a pre-treatment. Otherwise, just blot and wait for us.

Do you sell the Number One product for home use?expand_more

Yes. You can purchase Number One stain remover directly from us for use between professional cleans. It is the same professional-grade formula we use on every job — diluted for home use. Visit our products page to order, or ask about it when we visit.

"If you'd like a carpet service that actually removes stains and odour — call these guys! We have a 14-year-old dog who can't always make it outside, and we'd tried a few companies and all the supermarket products. They solved all our carpet problems and a couch too."
